01The scope is broader than road freight
The European Commission describes the framework as applying across road, rail, inland waterway and air transport.
The exact information required for a movement depends on the applicable regulatory requirements represented by eFTI data subsets.
02Full application starts in 2027
The Commission states that the Regulation applies in full from 9 July 2027 and that Member State authorities must then accept compliant electronic information shared via certified eFTI platforms.
That authority-acceptance framework should not be confused with a universal requirement that every freight document becomes digital on that date.
